GRID

by Christopher Bauder (DE) & Robert Henke (DE)

GRID is an audiovisual artwork combining kinetic movement, light animation and live electronic music created by light artist Christopher Bauder and composer and musician Robert Henke. The installation is an artistic approach to manifesting computer- generated shapes and surfaces in real space. An abstract array of light lines is directly perceived as a tangible spatial experience.
Every sound and every bit of music correlates with a visual impulse and a spatial alteration of the mechatronic display. The music stirs the emotions, while the mechanical movements and changes of light fascinate the eye. The installation speaks to a fundamental fact of modern life: computers and machines have become part of our natural environment.

Christopher Bauder is a light artist, designer and inventor. He works worldwide, focusing on the transfer of bits and bytes into real space and vice versa. Light, object, space and sound are the central elements of his work. Bauder’s most famous work is the art installation Lichtgrenze, which he created with his brother Marc in 2014 to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Alongside his numerous releases as Monolake, Robert Henke is also well known for the music, audiovisual installations and performances he has been creating under his own name since the early 90s. Due to his background in engineering and fascination with the beauty of technical objects, the development of his own instruments and algorithms has always been an integral part of his creative process.
